The UM2 gets your microphone into your computer over a single USB cable
— Behringer official site
What is UM2U-PHORIA UM2?
The U-PHORIA UM2 is a 2-in, 2-out USB audio interface from Behringer, presented as a compact entry-level way to get a mic or instrument into a computer over one USB cable.
The mic input is a combination XLR/quarter-inch jack with a XENYX mic preamp. A switchable +48 V phantom supply serves condenser mics, and no separate power adapter is needed.
A dedicated instrument input for guitar and similar sources has its own gain knob. A clip LED lights when the input is too loud, giving a visual cue about distortion.
Outputs are two RCA jacks for powered monitors. Zero-latency direct monitoring with an output level knob lets you hear the input without a trip through the computer. The unit weighs about 0.3 kg.
XENYX mic preamp
The combination input has a XENYX mic preamp, so both dynamic and condenser mics can be connected. It fits recording voice with a first microphone.
Switchable +48 V phantom power
The +48 V supply for condenser mics is switched on the unit. When using a dynamic mic, leaving it off is a sensible default.
Separate instrument input
Besides the mic jack there is a quarter-inch instrument input with its own gain knob, useful when you want vocals and guitar on separate inputs.
Zero-latency direct monitoring
Input audio can be heard directly without passing through the computer, with an output level knob. It helps when delay in your own voice is distracting during recording.
Signal and clip LEDs
LEDs show whether signal is present and whether the input is too loud. When the clip LED lights, lowering the gain is the usual remedy.
USB bus power
Power comes from the computer over USB, so no AC adapter is needed, which suits portable setups.
