What is ZDM-1PMP Podcast Mic Pack?

The ZDM-1PMP is a microphone pack from ZOOM for podcasting. It bundles a dynamic microphone, closed-back headphones, a desktop mic stand, a windscreen and an XLR cable, covering everything except the recorder.

The microphone is the ZDM-1, a large-diaphragm dynamic with a supercardioid pattern that ZOOM says reduces unwanted sound pickup. It has a built-in shock mount to reduce handling and vibration noise.

The headphones are the closed-back ZHP-1 with 40 mm drivers, described as low in sound leakage. They suit monitoring your own voice and a guest's during recording.

The TPS-4 desktop stand is height-adjustable and folds into a lightweight tripod, so it can stand on a desk or travel with you. The official page lists recorders such as ZOOM's PodTrak series as related products.

Broadcast-style dynamic mic

The ZDM-1 is a large-diaphragm dynamic that ZOOM describes as capturing a rich, warm voice. Dynamic mics generally pick up less room sound, which may help in untreated rooms.

Supercardioid with built-in shock mount

The narrow supercardioid pattern focuses on sound from the front. The built-in shock mount helps reduce desk vibration and handling noise.

135 dB maximum SPL

The official spec lists a 135 dB maximum sound pressure level, which ZOOM presents as headroom against clipping and distortion on loud voices.

ZHP-1 closed-back headphones

These closed-back 40 mm headphones use a self-adjusting headband. A closed design leaks less into the mic, which suits monitoring while recording.

Portable TPS-4 desk stand

A metal screw and folding tripod make the stand light and sturdy. Its height adjusts, so it can be set up on a desk or on location.

Windscreen and 2 m XLR cable

A dedicated windscreen reduces breath and wind noise, and a shielded 2-meter XLR cable is included, reducing what you need to buy separately.

A first podcast setup

Because mic, headphones, stand and cable come together, it may suit someone who wants to avoid piecing a kit together.

Streaming or radio-style talk

The dynamic design that picks up less room sound may fit talk shows or streams from a home desk.

Narration and reading at home

It may be handy for recording video narration or readings while monitoring on headphones.

Recording on location

The folding stand is light and may be convenient to carry along with a field recorder.

Who it may suit

  • Those starting a podcast or stream who want a complete kit.
  • People who own or plan to buy an XLR-equipped recorder such as a ZOOM PodTrak.
  • Anyone concerned about room sound who wants to try a dynamic mic.
  • Home narrators looking for a mic-and-headphone set.

Good to know before you buy

  • The mic is XLR, so you need a recorder, mixer or interface with an XLR input; no recorder is included.
  • The headphones use a stereo mini plug, so an adapter may be needed for other jacks.
  • ZOOM lists the pack as open-priced; its own store price appears on the official page.
