What is Multiply 2?

Multiply 2 is a free chorus-type plug-in from Acon Digital. The maker says it is designed to avoid the thin, watery comb-filtering common to ordinary chorus plug-ins.

It simulates up to six additional voices, each processed by a phase-randomizing filter, which the maker says yields natural thickening rather than metallic swirl.

Frequency (pitch) and amplitude (loudness) modulation are independent, each with its own rate and depth. A five-band equalizer and a modulated pre-delay are built in.

Stated uses include thickening as if several performers play in unison, widening a mono source, and sound design. A range of presets is included.

Up to six voices

Up to six extra voices can be added, aiming at the thickness of several performers playing the same part.

Phase-randomizing filters

Each voice goes through a filter to avoid the comb filtering typical of chorus, keeping delay times short.

Independent frequency and amplitude modulation

Pitch drift and loudness movement each have their own rate and depth, from subtle to extreme.

Five-band EQ

Low cut, low shelf, mid bell, high shelf and high cut shape only the effect signal, with adjustable slopes.

Modulated pre-delay

An integrated pre-delay allows diffuse, echo-like effects.

Presets and A/B

Preset manager, user presets, A/B comparison and undo/redo are supported.

Mono and stereo

Mono and true stereo processing are supported, with sample rates up to 96 kHz.
