What is PROFILE USB Microphone?

The PROFILE USB Microphone is a USB-C condenser microphone from Sennheiser. The maker presents it for podcasting, voiceover and streaming.

The pickup pattern is cardioid, favoring sound from the front and rejecting off-axis sound. Three controls on the body, Gain, Mix and Volume, let you adjust without software.

Mix balances the microphone signal against audio coming from your device. A 3.5 mm headphone output lets you monitor your voice while recording. The soft-touch mute button has an LED ring, and the gain ring shows power and clipping status.

It works with macOS, iPadOS, Windows and Android without drivers or software. A self-locking tilt joint lets you use it on the included table stand or a boom arm. The housing is metal and the weight is 350 g.

Official specs list a pre-polarised condenser transducer, 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range and 44.1 and 48 kHz sampling rates. Equivalent noise is 34 dB(A) SPL and maximum SPL is 125 dB SPL (both at minimum gain).

The microphone measures 50 mm in diameter by 152 mm, weighs 350 g and comes with a 1.2 m USB-C cable. Operating temperature is 0 to 40 C and the warranty is 2 years. The housing is metal with a self-locking tilt joint.

USB-C and wide OS support

It supports macOS, iPadOS, Windows and Android with no drivers, handy if you also record on tablets or phones.

Cardioid condenser

Favors the voice in front and rejects off-axis sound, suited to voice recording where you want less room sound.

Gain, Mix and Volume controls

Three controls set input level, mic/playback balance and headphone volume without opening software.

Mute with LED ring

A soft-touch button mutes with one press, and the LED ring shows status, handy on streams and calls.

Gain LED indicator

The ring around the gain knob shows power and clipping, so you can see if the input is too hot.

Self-locking tilt joint

A self-locking pivot lets you set and hold an angle, on the table stand or a boom arm.

Optional accessories

Boom Arm (700101), table stand (700102), 3 m USB-C cable (700103) and the Profile Streaming Set (700100) with arm and pouch are available.
