What is UT Tube67?
The United Studio Technologies UT Tube67 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone. United describes it as a faithful homage to classic microphones from the 1960s. It offers three polar patterns: cardioid, omni and figure-8.
It uses a 1960s NOS EF86 pentode vacuum tube. The capsule is a 34 mm brass dual-backplate K67-type with a 6-micron, 24k gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm. United says it based the design on a 1970s capsule to give a natural low to low-mid range.
The transformer is a custom-wound, US-made UT-BV12. It uses high-nickel alloy laminations and a copper Faraday shield for reduced RFI. United also mentions a switchable Air Modification.
A power supply, shock mount, vintage-style pouch and a 6 m Sommer 7-conductor cable are included. Final assembly and testing are done in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. United lists vocals, strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, drums and acoustic and electric guitars among the sources it suits.
NOS EF86 vacuum tube
It uses a 1960s EF86 pentode tube, which United credits for a warm, intimate vocal quality.
K67-type dual-backplate capsule
A 34 mm brass dual-backplate capsule with a 24k gold-sputtered diaphragm, intended by United for a smooth sound with little resonance.
Three polar patterns
Cardioid, omni and figure-8 let you adapt to solo, duet or room recording.
Air Modification
United describes a switchable air modification, a tool for adjusting high-frequency character.
80 Hz high-pass and -10 dB pad
Includes an 80 Hz high-pass (-12 dB point) and a -10 dB pad, with 137 dB max SPL at 0.5% THD.
Low-noise design
Self noise is below 11 dB, and United says extra effort went into reducing noise and RFI.
US-made transformer and assembly
The UT-BV12 transformer is US-made and final assembly and testing are in the USA.
