What is DeeField?

DeeField is a vocal spatial effect developed by Japanese plug-in maker DOTEC-AUDIO, available in VST2, VST3, AU and AAX formats.

It changes the stereo image of a vocal track and gives it a sound field that blends with the backing track. The official page stresses that, unlike reverb, it is a spatial effect with no reverberation.

It creates a gently enveloping stereo environment while maintaining vocal clarity. It is especially recommended when the phantom center feels too central.

Operation is just a matter of adjusting the dials. It is mono compatible, so it can be used in any playback environment, and the page also describes it as a good base for reverbs and delays.

A spatial effect without reverberation

Unlike reverb it adds no tail, creating space by changing the stereo image, which may suit keeping a vocal's outline intact.

Phantom center solution

Recommended when the vocal feels stuck in the middle, and may help it settle into the backing track.

Simple dial control

The official page says anyone can master it by adjusting the dials, so it is approachable even for beginners with spatial effects.

Mono compatibility

It is described as mono compatible, which is reassuring when the playback system is unknown.

Base for reverbs and delays

Using it ahead of reverb or delay is mentioned, which gives another option when combining effects.

64-bit double precision and demo

It supports 64-bit double precision, and a free demo exists; the demo inserts one second of silence every 30 seconds.

Cover songs and vocal mixing

When a vocal sits too prominently in the center, it may be worth trying to blend it into the backing track.

Ahead of a reverb

It could be placed before reverb or delay to build a base for spatial depth.

Streaming and narration

Since OBS Studio and Streamlabs OBS are listed as tested, it may suit adding a little space to a voice.
