What is MDrumCleaner?
MDrumCleaner is a dedicated plug-in for reducing microphone bleed, a common problem in drum recordings. According to the official site, the following five kinds of processing can be used on their own or in combination.
- Cymbal Killer: reduces cymbal components that bleed into the snare and tom microphones
- Side-chain Remover: removes bleed from other channels using a side-chain signal
- Spectrum Cleaner: sorts out the bleed components per frequency band
- Spectrum Gate: a gate that works per frequency band
- Gate: ordinary noise-gate processing
Who it suits
- People who record a live drum kit with several microphones and are troubled by the bleed in each channel (especially hi-hat and cymbal bleed)
- People who want a bit more separation between the drum parts in a mix
- People who already use MeldaProduction plug-ins and are considering an extra tool
How it differs from similar products
For handling drum bleed, it has been common to combine ordinary noise-gate plug-ins or multiband dynamics tools. MDrumCleaner is introduced as different from a single-function noise gate because it puts band-by-band gating and side-chain removal in one plug-in.
