Where to buy

These are update versions. If you are buying Melodyne for the first time, the regular prices at Plugin Boutique are essential $99, assistant $249, editor $399 and studio $699 (not part of the sale, checked on the same day).

What is Melodyne?

Melodyne is pitch correction and editing software that lets you edit the pitch, timing and length of vocals and instruments from recorded audio note by note. It is said that, with Celemony’s own “DNA (Direct Note Access)” technology, it can reach not only single notes but also one note inside a chord. According to the official site, the editions differ as follows.

  • essential: can edit pitch, timing, duration and note separation. Polyphonic (chord) editing is not supported.
  • assistant: adds the function of converting audio to MIDI and the inspector to the essential features.
  • editor: supports DNA Direct Note Access, so you can edit polyphonic instruments such as piano and guitar, which contain chords.
  • studio: the top edition. It has multi-track editing, which edits several tracks at once, and is built with professional workflows in mind.

The differences in what each edition can do are compared in Melodyne 5 editions compared.

Who it suits

  • People who already own an older version of Melodyne (Assistant, Editor or Studio) and want to update to the latest
  • People who want to fix the pitch and timing of vocals by hand, in detail, while looking at the waveform
  • People who want to fix just some of the notes of a chord instrument such as piano or guitar (editor and above)

How it differs from similar products

For vocal pitch correction software, Antares’ Auto-Tune is often compared as well. Auto-Tune is known for real-time processing and effects such as the robot voice, while Melodyne is often described as an editing tool that lets you see recorded audio in blobs (note units) and fix not only pitch but also timing and length individually. Which suits you depends on whether you value real-time use or detailed editing afterwards.

After you buy: installation and activation
