An introduction to IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII, based on information from the maker and distributors: what it does, how to use it and who it may suit. It is not scored.
Professional nearfield monitoring with MTM driver design and ARC room correction — built for the rooms engineers actually work in.

What is iLoud MTM MKII?
iLoud MTM MKII is an active studio monitor from IK Multimedia. It uses an MTM (midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer) layout, with a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter placed between two 3.5-inch midwoofers, making it a 2-way design with three drivers per speaker.
IK says the MTM arrangement reduces vertical dispersion and the comb filtering caused by floor and ceiling reflections, giving a more consistent listening position. A major feature is its use with ARC, the room correction system.
It has separate class D amplifiers for the low and high drivers (100 W RMS total), and onboard DSP handles crossover, driver alignment and ARC correction. It is presented as a self-contained monitoring system that includes the correction processing.
The Pair version includes an ARC measurement microphone, and the ARC X software on your computer measures the room and applies correction. Expansion is also envisioned, by adding iLoud Sub or building multichannel immersive systems with ARC X Immersive.
MTM driver layout
Two 3.5-inch composite cellulose-fiber midwoofers sit above and below a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. The crossover frequency is 2.8 kHz.
ARC room correction
The supplied ARC microphone measures the room and generates a correction profile for the listening position. IK says it aims to reduce the influence of the room without acoustic treatment.
Bi-amplification and DSP
Independent class D amplifiers (70 W for the woofers, 30 W for the tweeter) and onboard DSP manage crossover and phase. Total latency is listed as 2.44 ms.
Adjustment switches
An LF extension switch (40, 50, 60 or 80 Hz), LF shelf (+2 dB / -3 dB), HF shelf (+2 dB / -3 dB) and a desk switch (-4 dB at 160 Hz, +1 dB at 1.8 kHz) are provided for quick adjustment to desk and room.
Balanced input and USB
A combo XLR/TRS input, a 1/8-inch ARC microphone input and a USB-B port are provided. The USB connection supports software-based setup.
Expandability
The product page describes full-range setups with iLoud Sub and multichannel setups (such as 2.1 and 7.1.4) calibrated with ARC X Immersive.

- ARC microphone, mic clamp, XLR to 1/8-inch TS cable (2.5 m) (only included in the Pair version and Immersive Bundle)
- ARC X requirements: Mac (Apple M1 or Intel Core i5 or better, 4 GB RAM, macOS 10.15 or newer; macOS 11 or newer for Apple Silicon) or Windows (Core i5 equivalent or better, 4 GB RAM, Windows 10 64-bit or newer); AU, VST 3, AAX (Windows: VST 3, AAX)
- An audio interface with a phantom-powered XLR mic input and two outputs; measurement at 44.1 or 48 kHz
How to use it
- Place them with the supplied stand or support feet, aimed at the listening position.
- Connect your audio interface outputs to the speaker combo inputs with balanced XLR or TRS cables.
- Connect a USB cable to the computer to prepare for ARC X.
- Connect the ARC microphone to a phantom-powered XLR mic input on the interface and put it at the listening position.
- Open ARC X and run the room measurement (at 44.1 or 48 kHz).
- Create a correction profile from the measurement and apply it to the monitors.
- Use the LF extension, LF shelf, HF shelf and desk switches as needed.
- Toggle the correction on and off to compare the sound.
Mixing on the desk
At 2.5 kg and compact, it may suit a desktop mixing setup.
Rooms hard to treat
In rooms where wall treatment is hard, such as rented ones, ARC correction may be an option to try.
Full-range setups with a subwoofer
Combining with iLoud Sub to supplement the bass may be worth considering.
Trying immersive production
Gathering several units and calibrating with ARC X Immersive may be a way to try immersive setups.
Who it may suit
- People who want to measure and correct room influence
- People looking for compact desktop monitors
- People who may expand later to a subwoofer or immersive setup
- People interested in MTM-layout monitors
Good to know before you buy
- The ARC microphone is only included in the Pair version and Immersive Bundle, not the Single.
- ARC measurement needs an audio interface with a phantom-powered XLR mic input.
- One text block on the official page mentions the iLoud Precision MKII by name.
- Pair, Single and White versions each have a sales page.
