An introduction to IK Multimedia iLoud Precision MKII, based on information from the maker and distributors: what it does, how to use it and who it may suit. It is not scored.
Reference-grade monitoring designed for today's studios and built for evolving workflows.

What is iLoud Precision MKII?
The iLoud Precision MKII is a series of two-way active studio monitors from IK Multimedia. It comes in three sizes: the 5 MKII with a 5-inch mid-woofer, the 6 MKII with a 6.5-inch mid-woofer, and the MTM MKII with two mid-woofers around the tweeter. Each can be bought as a single speaker or as a pair.
Its headline feature is built-in ARC (Advanced Room Correction). You measure your room with the supplied measurement microphone, and the correction is applied in the speaker's own DSP, so you do not need separate correction software or an outboard box to get started.
The drivers combine a lightweight coated-paper mid-woofer with a 1.5-inch graphene-reinforced textile dome tweeter. IK describes a 6th-order linear-phase crossover and a DSP running at a 96 kHz sampling rate.
The system is designed to work as a stereo pair, with the optional iLoud Sub, or as the foundation of an immersive (for example Atmos) monitoring setup. It is aimed at people who plan to expand a monitoring system step by step.
ARC room correction built in
Measure your room with the supplied ARC microphone and the correction runs in the speaker's DSP. ARC X control software for macOS and Windows, plus an optional remote, handles measurement and target-curve choice. It may help reduce the coloration of an untreated room.
Three sizes: 5, 6 and MTM
The 5 MKII offers 135 W RMS with a 5-inch driver, the 6 MKII 150 W with a 6.5-inch driver, and the MTM MKII 175 W with two 5-inch drivers. You can match the size to your room and budget.
Linear-phase crossover and DSP
The crossover is 6th order and linear phase, and the phase response is specified as 0/+20 degrees maximum from 150 Hz up. The aim is a coherent hand-off between the two drivers, which matters when judging stereo image and depth.
Placement-friendly tone controls
High-pass filter steps (off, 35, 50, 65, 80 Hz) and LF, desk, mid and HF contour controls are provided. They can be used to tame low-end buildup when the speakers sit on a desk or near a wall.
Low-distortion built-in amplification
Custom Class-D amplifiers are built in, and distortion at nominal power is listed as 0.005%. You do not need an external power amp; you connect to your audio interface and play.
Expandable to sub and immersive
IK describes combining the series with the iLoud Sub, and using ARC X Immersive to set up multichannel systems. If you plan to add speakers later, starting with one family may make that easier.
Firmware updates
The series is described as growing through firmware updates and ARC ecosystem integration, so it is worth checking for updates after purchase.

What is included and system requirements
- Monitor (size and quantity as purchased)
- Power cord
- ARC measurement microphone
- Microphone clamp
- USB-B to USB-A cable (2.5 m)
- Set of 4 iLoud isolation pods

- Put the supplied isolation pods under each speaker to reduce vibration into the desk.
- Connect the power cord and run your audio interface outputs to the speakers.
- Connect the computer by USB and install the ARC X control software.
- Clamp the ARC measurement microphone at your listening position, at head height.
- Follow the software prompts to run the measurement and choose a target curve.
- Switch correction on and off and fine-tune with the high-pass filter and contour controls for your placement.
Mixing in a home studio
Even in a room affected by walls and furniture, you may be able to measure and correct before you start work, and re-measure after moving gear.
Adding a sub later
You could start with two speakers and add an iLoud Sub later, building the system in steps.
Foundation for immersive work
Using one family of speakers for a multichannel Atmos-style setup may keep configuration simple.
Tracking and editing checks
Keeping the same correction while recording and editing may help keep what you hear consistent.
Who it may suit
- People who want to reduce the influence of room acoustics when checking mixes
- People who want to start in stereo and later add a sub or immersive speakers
- People who prefer to avoid buying correction software separately
- People who want to pick a size that fits their room
Good to know before you buy
- Three sizes (5, 6, MTM) are sold as singles or pairs, so check which you are ordering.
- The ARC X control software runs on macOS and Windows; the remote is sold separately.
- Prices on the official page are shown excluding VAT and may show a sale price below the regular price.
- The speakers weigh about 6.4 kg (5 MKII), 7.9 kg (6 MKII) and 9.9 kg (MTM MKII), so check that your stand or desk can carry them.
