What is Reflexion Filter PRO RF PRO?

The RF PRO (Reflexion Filter PRO) is a portable acoustic treatment device for microphones from sE Electronics. It attaches to a mic stand and wraps around the back and sides of the microphone to reduce the amount of room sound it picks up.

sE says it invented the Reflexion Filter in 2006. It uses patented multi-layer construction intended to work across a wide frequency range with little coloration.

When a mic sits in front of you it hears reflections of your voice bouncing back from walls. The multi-layer material is meant to reduce that. It is aimed at people recording vocals or instruments in rooms without a booth.

The mounting hardware was redesigned in 2016 for pan and tilt adjustment. sE lists vocals, acoustic and electric guitar cabs, bass cabs, strings, piano, woodwinds, brass, kick and room mics as uses.

Patented multi-layer construction

Multiple layers are described as working across a wide frequency range, which sE distinguishes from simple foam. It may be worth trying where room sound is a concern.

Reducing reflections

Mics also pick up sound reflected from walls. The RF PRO surrounds the mic to reduce how much of that comes in.

Redesigned mounting hardware

The 2016 redesign improved stability and ease of use. It allows pan and tilt, and moving parts are chromated for low wear.

Many sources

Vocals, acoustic guitar, guitar and bass cabinets, strings, piano, winds, kick and room mics are listed.

Hand-made in sE's factory

sE states each unit is hand-made in its own factory.

Mounting parts included

A mounting bracket, screw wrench and mic stand thread adapter come in the box so you can mount it immediately.

It may help when you want to avoid room sound while the mic is close to the amp.

Piano and strings

You could try it while adjusting position to reduce room sound.

  • A plain 'Reflexion Filter' does not appear in the current lineup; current models are RF SPACE, RF PRO, RF-X and others.

How it differs from similar products

We do not pick a winner; the official figures are placed side by side.

RF-X

sE describes the RF-X as having a lightweight vented body and a simpler clamp assembly for artists on a budget, while the RF PRO is the original multi-layer unit.
