What is Blue Cat's Chorus?

Blue Cat's Chorus is a freeware chorus plugin from Blue Cat Audio. The maker says it can cover everything from a light ensemble effect to deep, heavy modulation within a single plugin.

A chorus was originally designed to imitate several voices playing the same notes, using a variable delay between them. This plugin builds on a single-voice vintage chorus and, according to the maker, can also produce deep pitch modulation and bubbling effects.

The stereo version has a Spread control for stereo widening and swirling chorus effects. The LFO can be set to sine or triangle.

It is offered in AU, VST, VST3 and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, with full MIDI control and automation. It is also part of Blue Cat's Free Pack.

Single-voice vintage chorus

A simple chorus that modulates one voice. You can try everything from light thickening to heavy wobble.

Spread control

In the stereo version you can adjust how widely the effect is spread. It may be worth trying on synths or guitars.

Sine or triangle LFO

The LFO shape can be selected to change the character of the modulation.

MIDI and automation

All parameters support MIDI control, automation and MIDI Learn. Version 4.6 (October 2026) expanded MIDI control to notes, pitch bend and more.

No CPU load on idle

Processing shuts down when fed with silence, keeping CPU usage low.

Interface and presets

The interface supports transparency and zoom, and there are preset management, copy/paste and undo/redo.

Smooth bypass

Smooth bypass is designed to avoid noise when enabling or disabling the plugin.
