What is CONNECT 2?
CONNECT 2 is a USB-C audio interface from Austrian microphone maker LEWITT. It is presented for musicians and content creators with an emphasis on ease of use.
It has one balanced XLR mic input (48 V phantom power) and one Hi-Z instrument input. Outputs are two balanced 6.3 mm speaker jacks plus 6.3 mm and 3.5 mm headphone outputs. Sample rates are 44.1/48/96 kHz at 24-bit, and it is USB bus powered.
Its main appeal is one-click processing: Autosetup dials in settings, Clipguard prevents clipping, and Compressor and Denoiser act with a single click. Three preamp sounds are selectable: Clean, Warm and Vivid.
Controls are capacitive touch, with direct mute for all channels and LEDs whose color and brightness can be set individually. Settings are made in the free CONTROL CENTER software for Mac and Windows, and Loopback captures computer audio.
Official figures for the mic input: gain 0 to 72 dB, dynamic range 118 dB(A), THD 0.001%, equivalent input noise -129 dBV(A) and maximum input level 15.8 dBV. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±0.1 dB), with 48 V phantom power.
The Hi-Z 6.3 mm instrument input offers 0 to 60 dB gain at 2.5 MOhm impedance, with 121 dB(A) dynamic range (105 dB(A) without Clipguard). It has 4 inputs (including 2 software channels) and 2 outputs, follows USB Audio Class 2.0, and has an ASIO driver.
Autosetup
This feature dials in input settings automatically. It may reduce the steps before a first recording for people unfamiliar with setting gain.
Clipguard
It guards against input clipping, which may reduce re-takes in streams and narration where volume changes suddenly.
One-click Compressor and Denoiser
Compression and noise reduction can be switched on with one press, processed by the interface's DSP, which suits cases where you want to avoid heavy plug-ins on the computer.
Three preamp sounds
Choose from Clean, Warm and Vivid. The official text does not detail how they differ, so you would compare them in use.
Touch controls and LEDs
Capacitive touch replaces knobs and allows direct mute of all channels. LED color and brightness are adjustable, and gain reduction is displayed.
Loopback and monitor mix
Loopback adds computer audio to the recording or stream, and the input/playback mix sets the balance you hear. It may help when you need to send music and voice together.
Included software
Space Replicator Essential is included along with Steinberg Cubase LE and Cubasis LE, so you can go from recording to editing without extra purchases.
25-step metering
A 25-step level meter and a gain reduction display let you read levels at a glance.
Mobile and macOS modes
There are macOS and mobile modes; USB-C iOS devices are plug and play, while Lightning devices need a Camera Connection Kit and external bus power.
DSP blocks and input/playback mix
It includes a low-cut filter, preamp modes and Autogain, plus an input/playback mix.
Kensington lock and 48 V button
A Kensington lock slot, a dedicated 48 V on/off button and a custom button are provided.
