What is Reelight PRO?

Reelight PRO is a tape emulation plug-in modeled on six well-known tape machines. It adds the warmth, light compression and saturation of tape to a track or a mix (per the manufacturer). It runs on Mac (VST3, AU, AAX) and Windows 10 or later (VST3, AAX), 64-bit only. The manufacturer’s site offers a 15-day trial.

Features

Six tape machines, A to F

Selectors A to F load six tape machine models. The Plugin Boutique description names the Ampex ATR 700, Studer A812, Studer A80, TEAC A2300 SD, AEG Telefunken M20 and Revox B77 mk2 (the store’s description). Each machine has a slow and a fast tape speed.

Tape captured in motion

The manufacturer says its “Advanced Dynamic IR” system captures the sound of each machine while the tape is running, and combines it with DSP modeling and hysteresis processing (per the manufacturer).

Tape-style controls

Bias, Comp (the compression tape adds), Crosstalk (signal bleeding between adjacent tracks) and tape speed are separate controls. Input and output gain cover plus or minus 24 dB, and the Lock option compensates the level automatically when you push the input (per the manufacturer).

Filters and oversampling

12 dB/oct high-pass and low-pass filters sit before the tape stage, and oversampling goes up to 8x. There is no wet/dry control; the plug-in is designed to be used as a full effect (per the manufacturer).

Who it suits

  • People who want a tape-style tone on drums, a bus or a full mix
  • People who like to choose between several tape machines by ear
  • People who want a quick way to try the tape sound with a free trial first

After you buy: installation and activation

This is the general flow for products bought at Plugin Boutique. Activation differs by product (serial number, a manufacturer account, iLok and so on), so check the instructions in your library after purchase.

  1. Log in to your Plugin Boutique account and find the product in “Library”.
  2. Download the installer (you can switch between the Windows and Mac versions). Depending on the product, you also get a serial number, an unlock code or a key file.
  3. Product-specific steps are under “…” → “Installation Instructions” next to the product in your library, and also near the bottom of the product page.

Before you buy

  • The end date is the one shown on Plugin Boutique. Offers can change, so confirm on the product page before you buy.
  • Check the supported operating systems, plug-in formats (VST3, AU, AAX and so on) and the licensing method on the product page before buying.
