What is Vinyl?

Vinyl is a free lo-fi plug-in from iZotope that recreates the character of worn vinyl records, intended for adding age and atmosphere to tracks.

It simulates dust, scratches, warp and mechanical noise, letting you layer record-playback noise and instability onto a sound.

It also has a Lo-fi effect that recreates the saturated tone of late-1980s hip-hop sampling, available as a single-push option.

The interface is simple and CPU use is described as low. It supports Native Instruments NKS, so it can be controlled from MASCHINE and KOMPLETE KONTROL hardware.

Dust and scratches

Adds record-style crackle and pops. It may be used on intros or breaks for an old-record atmosphere.

Warp

Recreates the pitch and speed wobble of a warped record, which may add an organic feel to programmed sounds.

Mechanical noise

Adds turntable-style mechanical noise, which may work at low levels as a background layer.

Lo-fi effect

Creates a saturated tone like late-1980s hip-hop sampling, with a single-push option for quick changes.

Era feel

A testimonial mentions a year control that sets the vintage era; a full parameter list is not shown on the page.

NKS and low CPU

NKS lets you browse and tweak from MASCHINE and KOMPLETE KONTROL, and low CPU use may help in larger projects.
