What is Twin6?

Twin6 is a 2.5-way active monitor in Focal's ST6 line. It has two 6.5-inch W-cone woofers and a 1-inch beryllium inverted-dome tweeter in a wide cabinet designed for horizontal placement.

Focal positions it as a reliable, versatile tool that can cover recording, mixing and mastering with one pair of monitors. The design focuses on transparency and imaging precision, and it carries the main technologies: the beryllium tweeter, W cones and Focus Mode.

Focus Mode switches it to a full-range 1-way mode (110 Hz to 10 kHz) with a footswitch, giving a different speaker configuration. It suits checking mixes on small systems without replacing the monitors.

As with Solo6 and Trio6, it has a variable high-pass filter, a 160 Hz parametric filter and an automatic standby mode that can be disengaged. A rear switch lets you choose which of the two woofers handles the midrange, which is a distinctive control of this model.

2.5-way design

Two 6.5-inch W woofers and a beryllium tweeter. Focal lists the response as 40 Hz to 40 kHz (±3 dB) and max SPL as 112 dB.

Midrange driver selector

A rear switch picks which of the two woofers handles the midrange, right or left. When used as a pair, it lets you align the arrangement with the placement.

Focus Mode

A footswitch changes it to a full-range 1-way mode (110 Hz to 10 kHz). It is for checking how a mix holds up on smaller systems.

Beryllium tweeter

A pure beryllium inverted dome handles the highs. Focal says the design uses the material's high rigidity.

W cone

A sandwich cone of glass layers and foam that Focal says aims to optimize the frequency response and keep distortion low.

Room controls

A high-pass filter (full range, 45, 60, 90 Hz), a 160 Hz control (±3 dB) and bass and treble levels help deal with desk and console reflections.

Reinforced cabinet

Thick MDF with internal bracing gives high rigidity and damping to limit vibration and distortion.

From recording to mastering with one pair

Because Focal presents it as covering recording, mixing and mastering, it may be worth considering when you want to finish work with less gear.

Wide desk spaces

Its wide, horizontal cabinet may fit desks where a tall monitor would be in the way.

Checking on small speakers

Switching Focus Mode to 1-way may help you hear the difference.

Monitoring in a larger room

At 22 kg it may suit rooms where more volume is needed.

Who it may suit

  • People who want a 2.5-way with two woofers
  • People who can place a monitor horizontally
  • People who want one pair for recording through mastering
  • People looking for a middle size in the ST6 line

Good to know before you buy

  • The design assumes horizontal placement.
  • The footswitch for Focus Mode is sold separately.
  • The only input is XLR balanced.
  • Two units are needed for stereo and the midrange driver side (right/left) must be set.
