What is Super-7?

Super-7 is an instrument from UVI inspired by the MKS-7, an 8-voice rackmount synthesizer that combines analog architecture with PCM sounds from a drum machine. It is aimed at synthwave, new wave, electro, house and 80s synthpop (per the manufacturer).

It runs inside the free UVI Workstation or Falcon, in AU, AAX, VST, VST3 and standalone formats. A free iLok account (no dongle) and an internet connection are needed to activate the license (per the manufacturer).

For how it compares with other synths, see synths compared.

Features

260+ presets

It includes more than 260 factory patches, combining new sounds with sounds from the original machine, plus patterns (per the manufacturer).

Six layers, eight tracks

Drums, bass, melody and three general-purpose synth parts can be controlled independently, and each part can also be loaded on its own as a standalone instrument (per the manufacturer).

Sound shaping per layer

Each non-drum layer has an amp envelope, a multimode filter with envelope, drive, phasor and EQ effects, reverb and delay sends, and an arpeggiator/phraser (per the manufacturer).

Sampled three ways

Patches made on the MKS-7 were recorded normally, with the chorus engaged and with the noise switch active. The drums include classic machines such as the 6o6, 626, 7o7, 8o8 and 9o9 (per the manufacturer).

Specifications

  • Mac: macOS 10.14 or later. Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
  • Requires UVI Workstation 3.0.17 or later, or Falcon 2.1.4 or later
  • 5 GB of disk space and 4 GB of memory (per the manufacturer)
