The WORMHOLE plug-in interface

What is WORMHOLE?

WORMHOLE is a multi-effect from Zynaptiq. It is made of five parts: SHIFT, which shifts pitch and frequency; WARP, which transforms sound into strange shapes; two reverbs; a delay; and FX BLEND, which mixes the original and processed sound smoothly (per the manufacturer).

Pitch can be changed up and down by up to four octaves. Besides sound-effect work such as robot or monster voices and spaceship-interior effects, it is also said to suit everyday music production, such as widening guitars or pads left and right or adding a note one octave lower. It supports AU, VST 2.4, VST3 and AAX Native (per the manufacturer).

Features

Clean pitch and frequency shifting

It supports pitch shifting of ±4 octaves and frequency shifting of ±4000 Hz with no aliasing (fold-back noise), according to the official page. The carrier and sideband attenuation is 96 dB per octave.

The SHIFT module: four modes

A unique design that combines pitch shifting and frequency shifting, with SMOOTH, TIGHT and two DETUNE modes (per the manufacturer). It suits making a guitar waver and widen, or creating a glassy afterglow.

WARP: inverting and bending the spectrum

This module inverts or bends the frequency content of a sound. You can make otherworldly textures and monster or robot voices (per the manufacturer).

Two hall reverbs, and dry/wet morphing

It has two hall reverbs with a rich, randomly varying sound. There is also a function to change the balance of dry and wet smoothly.

30-day free trial

The manufacturer’s official site offers a 30-day free trial.

  2. The email you receive has the download URL of the latest installer and the “Activation Code” that activates the software.
  3. Run the installer to install it.
  4. Enter the code from “Activate” in the plug-in’s wizard, or register the code with “Redeem Code” in iLok License Manager, to activate.
