What is Minimoog?

Minimoog is a software synth made by Universal Audio together with Moog Music, based on Moog’s classic Minimoog Model D. It is described as recreating even the fine quirks of the original through circuit modeling (per the manufacturer).

Features

A recreation of the analog synth classic, the Minimoog Model D

This is a plug-in Universal Audio built specifically, together with Moog Music, to recreate the Moog Minimoog Model D that appeared in 1970. The manufacturer says it recreates even the original’s fine quirks and drift.

One “Golden Unit” chosen from three hardware units and modeled

UA’s DSP engineers examined three vintage Minimoogs through circuit modeling and listening comparisons and chose one “Golden Unit”. The manufacturer says a dedicated robot measured the knob positions precisely, and even the unit-to-unit differences of each module were recreated (per the manufacturer).

The thick, distorted sound of the ladder filter and oscillators

It recreates the growling thickness and rich distortion of Moog’s ladder filter and oscillators. The pitch-tracking drift is also modeled in detail. The “feedback” effect, which returns the output to the input, is available too (per the manufacturer).

Custom Mod features

It incorporates modifications that power users made to the hardware, such as note-priority switching, legato, sample & hold and an additional LFO (per the manufacturer).

Almost zero latency, and the UAD Native version

Latency is almost zero so you can record a performance in real time. The UAD Native version runs on a Mac or PC without UA hardware (per the manufacturer).

After you buy: installation and activation

This is the flow for Universal Audio products bought at Plugin Boutique (a UA account plus UA Connect plus an iLok account). Steps and screen names can change when the manufacturer updates its software.
